Come May 5, all Malaysian will be casting their vote once again to elect the next government. Indeed, this is a vast opportunity for us to make a change, to transform our political practice towards something more mature and stronger. Afterall, it will be the 13th time, 58 years after the first one. We will be posting a transformational view about GE towards the date, one at a time.
Things that we need to change about PRU:
- As we know, the coming GE is mainly contested by TWO major coalition parties – Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Rakyat (PR). But, how many of the Malaysian public really looks at it that way? The reality is, most of us see it as BN against Pembangkang. Or at least we have been fed with that concept all this while, and automatically the court will slightly favor one side because the word Opposition is so negative and only invites negative reactions. That does not sound fair at all, does it? The funny thing is, BN is also the opposition party in as many as four states, but why does this labeling only applies to the other party? Let us look at it this way. During the US Presidential Election, we never heard things like – a contest between the President vs the Opposition! What we normally heard would be, a coalition between the Democrat and the Republican. Well, that will sound more of like a FAIR fight. We just do not brand anybody (or any party for this matter). Instead, we have to look at them as what they represent and stand for. So, start addressing them as just BN and PR, and then listen to what they have to say. And that, fellow Malaysian, is what we need in the first place in the coming GE. Err… calling names? Ouch… that will be totally a different issue altogether!
Next changes – the candidates campaigning style.
